Purposes of the Association
The following are some of the main purposes of the AESED:

Study, information, training, dissemination and research into prevention, treatment and insertion as regards alcoholism and other addictions and mental health, and also assessment and scientific support.

Creating, editing, supervising, disseminating and publishing specific general and scientific material with social-healthcare interest.

Participation and cooperation with public and private institutions by developing preventive materials and scientific projects.

Transferring scientific progress to its members and to other professionals, by means of conferences, seminars, workshops and training courses in the different aspects involved in prevention and treatment of addictions.

The publication of the Revista Española de Drogodependencias since 1976, this being the first journal originally specialising in alcoholism and drug addictions and later on extending to other addictions. This is the official organ of the Association.
