The consumption of licit and illicit drugs is a problem that seriously affects our young
populations. Therefore, it is necessary to review and know the factors that may be increasing
the amount of this consumption. This article reports the results of the consumption of licit
and illicit drugs in student teachers of a Chilean public university and its relationship with
psychosocial factors such as self-concept, low behavioral control and attitude towards drugs.
494 student teachers answered the Questionnaire on Drugs Use in University Student. From
this sample it was found that marijuana and alcohol consumption were significantly associated
with each other, and also related to low behavioral control and attitude towards drugs. Alcohol
consumption was also related to age, academic performance and free time. There results
contribute to establish criteria for preventing problematic drug use in Higher Education.
