Effects of binge drinking on the adolescent brain

Alcohol is one of the most consumed drugs in society and poses a risk to both physical and
mental health. The effects become even more apparent in adolescent consumers, as the brain
remains immature during this stage of life. The purpose of this document is to carry out a
systematic review of the effect of Binge drinking in the adolescent brain. As a main result,
it has been found that this consumption pattern is associated with a worse performance in
psychological tasks, less brain activity and a deviation in the normal development of the brain.
In addition, baseline differences between controls and future drinkers; which could serve as
potential risk markers for future alcohol consumption or further alcohol use disorders development;
have been detected.
