In this paper we analyse the links between the conceptions that leaders of religious substance abuse\r\ntreatment centres have about motivations for drug abuse, and the modality of treatment and territorial\r\ninsertions that they propose according to those conceptions. While some leaders consider the\r\ntherapeutic community located well away from central urban areas as the most appropriate modality,\r\nothers believe that treatment centres should be situated in –or nearby– vulnerable neighbourhoods.\r\nWe thus developed a qualitative methodological strategy based on interviews with leaders of 25\r\ninstitutions located in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The interviews were\r\ncodified with the support of the Atlas. ti 7® software. We then identified emerging categories by\r\nmeans of an inductive analysis and thematically analysed the empirical evidence.
